We Will Never DieWith slightly more than a week' time remaining, production plans ar rapidly crystallizing for the presenta tion of the dramatic spectacle UWlt; Will Never Die” to be presented ii the Chicago Stadium, Wednesday eve ning, May 19.From New York, Washington, anc Philadelphia, where the pageant wa: previously staged, has come the ap proval of thousands who witnessei the unfolding of the tragedy and glorj of a people that is written in the chapters of human achievement a: told in the uWe Will Never Die’pageant.| The creation of such a drama wa= first kindled in the mind of Ben Hecht when he wrote ‘‘Remembei Us,” published in the American Mercury and later appearing in Reader’s Digest. Supporting his ideas were Moss Hart, Billy Rose and Kurt Weill. From their combined talent was created the script, the production, the staging and the music of “We Will Never Die.*’tThey secured the assistance of Soin-tu Syrjala, who made his mark on the American theater with settings for such plays as “Children’s Hour.” “Stevedore,” “Pins and Needles.” and “Fight For Freedom.” Herman Rot-sten, assistant to Hart and director ofthe Chicago presentation; Don Hirsehand Marian Noble as stage director and assistant respectively, who also have given their services to the past presentations, are now here putting the final touches to the Chicago production.cAs the message of “We Will Never Die*’ unfolds the spectators sit silently and when the last word is said and the final note sounds, they walk from the pageant halls haunted bv the re-curring cry of all persecuted minorities everywhere. “Remember Us.” The spirir, of the production is captured, in these two words and carries with it the undying theme of free men in a1 free world walking side by side with ihe cause of the United Nations. The cast, composed almost exclusively of Chicagoans, has caught the spirit they are to interpret. Typical is the remark of nineteen-year-old banner bearer who said. “Although my part isn’t big this is the most important. thing that has happened to me.”Tickets for the pageant are'on sale it committee headquarters, Room 703.139 N. Clark street, and at the Sherman and Drake.
