Donald T Wruble, a career officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, has been named to head the Environmental Surveillance Program at the Public Health S e r v i c e’s Southwestern Radiological Health, in Las VegasThe appointment, effective May 1. was made by Laboratory Director Dr Melvin W Carter.As Chief of Environmental Surveillance, Wruble will have charge of the Laboratory's programs of aerial and ground surveillance throughout the wester n United States to detect and measure radioactivity in the environment by direct radiation readings and through sampling of air, water, nulk, vegetation, and other environmental media.He will also direct the laboratory'sm vcff - site radiological safety programs around the Nevada Test Site about miles northwest of Las Vegas and around other sites where the \tomie Energy( onlnussion tests nuclear explosives.i ill l
