Pasquale MarranzinoDENVER — Pasquale“Pocky” Marranzino, a Rocky Mountain News reporter and columnist whose career began on the eve of World War II, died Monday. He was 80.Marranzino joined the News as a cub reporter, earning $18 aweek. He later had a 25-year stint writing six columns a week.After World War II started, Marranzino obtained a leave of absence and served three years in the Navy.He returned to the News at the end of the war and worked a variety of beats before becoming a columnist.Marranzino was a former president of the Denver Newspaper Guild and Denver Press Club.He retired in 1973.He is survived by a son, Pasquale “Pocky Jr.” Marranzino Jr.; two daughters; a sister; and five grandchildren.
