sDEATH COMES SUDDENLY IN PLUNGE AT SPRINGSWill I)e La Riva, of Montalvo, Ynet death suddenly In the plunge at Ma-tilija Springs Tuesday evening. With a party of four others, Charles Hitch, Leslie Haydock, Roy Olivas and George Silva, all of Montalvo, he had gon*' to th** springs on an outing. They drove up Tuesday arriving at the springs early in the evening. After a hearty meal they went to the plunge and young De La Riva and Charles Hitch went in. They sported in the shallow water for a time and then I)e La Riva struck out into deep j water. 1 (Suddenly he disappeared. His companions thought that he had dived and for a minute paid no attention. Charlie Meyers of th** springs became alarmed when he did not come up soon and rushed to the end of the pool where he saw De La Riva lying on the bottom. He plunged dressed into the water and brought the young man to the surface.First aid measures were employed by Sim Myers and later by a doctor from Nordhoff who was summoned. They were unsuccessful. It was evident that death did not result from drowning for the young man had not been in the water long enough to have made resuscitation impossible by the methods employed. The exertion in the cold water following the hearty meal must have caused the death. The young man was 21 years old and a great favorite among his friends.Funeral services will be held tomorrow at the Mission at Ventura. The | funeral cortege will leave the resi-1 dence at Montalvo about 0 o’clock.I
