Purple Heart And Bronze Star For McConnell WidowMrs. Frances Ann McConnell, widow of Sgt. John McConnell, who died November 16, 1967, in Vietnam, received the bronze star and purple heart in ceremonies Monday evening at the Ralph Huff Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Cuyahoga Falls.Mrs. McConnell, currently residing in Rittman, was accompanied by the youth’s mother, Mrs. Jo McConnell; his sister, Cindy, and brothers, Michael and Randy, alh of this city.Killed on a reconnaissance mission by fragments projected when an allied booby trap exploded, Sgt. McConnell is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery. He had entered the service September 15, 1966, and had been in Vietnam three months, serving in an area about 70 miles north of Saigon.,He had been promoted to specialist fourth class four weeks prior to his death, and received the sergeant rating posthumous-iy-Sgt. McConnell was born July 8, 1947, at Indianapolis, Ind., a son of Jolm S. and Anna Josephine Whalin McConnell. He had attended Orrville Schools, completing graduation requirements in the service. A member of the 1 Orrville Baptist Church, be had married Frances Ann Skeen of Ypsilanti, Mich., June. 11, 1966.
