Creamer, CM 3/c, 1430 Midlandave.Buddy, Italian Bride Pay Visit to MerrittFrancis Merritt, of 404 Rowland St. had a reunion Monday with a buddy and his Italian bride, whose romance he witnessed in Italy.The visitors were Joseph Rollo of Fitchburg, Mass., and his wife, the former Mfss Josephine Romano.Merritt and Rollo met Miss Romano in the summer of 1944, when a truckload of American soldiers drove into Rome. Joseph Romano, a tailor at Vatican City w'ho had served as an underground worker during the Nazi occupation, welcomed the boys and asked if any came from Syracuse, where he had relatives.The two Syracusans accepted Romano’s invitation to dinner and met his dark-haired daughter. AfterIhe war was over. Rollo returnedto Rome and married Josephine inOctober, 1945. Josephine came toAmerica and stayed with her husband's family in Fitchburg, Mass. RolJo was discharged Jan. 3 and Merritt the preceding November.Welcoming the couple, besides Merritt, were Josephine's aunt. Mrs. Anne DAndrca, and her cousins, Anne and Clementine, of 304 Griffith st.
