Considering the mileage one issue gets, we think we're safe in assuming that “The Swamp An gel” is the biggest newspaper in town for its size. Although only two issues of the paper have been printed, it al ready circles the globe, has a cir culation of 150 and is begging for more. Decorated with a perky angel in the corner, this one sheet mimeographed paper is strictly for Sikeston men and women in service and is sent free to them by the Costa Gaea Sorority. The page is packed with news of servicement, items about the town and the doings of the peo ple in it the news that the boys in the servic want most. 12 Do the Work The 12 members of Costa Gaea sorority do all the newsgather ing, writing, editing, illustrating, mimeographing and mailing as well as the financing. Expenses have already run to $30 and on ly two issues have been printed. Grateful parents of boys who have received the paper have offered donations to the group but so far have been refused. “We're going to try to man age it ourselves,” Mrs. Garwood Sharp, editor, said, “but of course, when we get more names on our mailing list and expenses go higher we may have to accept a little financial help.” The sorority held a rummage sale Saturday afternoon to raise funds for the paper. Boys Appreciate It In spite of the fact the only one issue has been received, letters of appreciation are pouring in from the service men and women. “It's a great idea,” writes Pfc. Val Sharp, stationed in Californ ia. “I don’t know who was thoughtful enough to include my name on the mailing list but I sure appreciate it and am looking forward to the next issue,” com ments Capt. Tom Baker stationed in the South Pacific. “Keep ’em comin’” writes S/Sgt. James Lewis who is somewhere overseas. Members of the sorority meet twice a month to do the work required to “keep ‘em comin’”. The paper was started in Feb ruary for friends and relatives of the 12 members but has outgrown that group and the March edition was mailed last Friday to 150 men and women in the service.
