Hays, 74. of 910 Valley street, native of Des Moines county and former city councilman, died at his home last night after a long illness of a heart ailment.He was born near Mediapolis, the , son of Robert and Martha Hays. [ June 16, 1860. His parents hadmoved to the locality from Cincinnati, Ohio, being pioneer residentsof the vicinity. IOn June 12, 1880, he was married to Cecelia Yohe of Morning Sun. He was a life resident of the county except for 12 years spent at Stutt- j gart, Ark.Mr. Hays was a member of FirstMethodist church and of the Hawk-j eye Natives society. He retired from business 20 years ago. !Surviving him are his w'idow; five children, Mrs. L. G. Younkin. Mrs. Ralph Anderson, Perry Hays, Mrs.; C. W. Linder and Mrs. Bert Her- ' rington; nitte grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Two daughters. Mabel Hays and Mrs | Genevieve Hays Stivers, preceded him in death. A brother. Brown Hays, lives at Morning Sun.The funeral will be held from Prugh’s chapel at 2:15 p. m. Wednesday, with the Rev. Dr. J. F. Boeye,pastor of First Methodist church, officiating. Burial will be in Sharon cemetery near Mediapolis. The body was removed to the residence from Prugh’s chapel this afternoon.;
