General Funston’s ColtFrank Heppner, the popular young saloon keeper, of Oldenburg, is going around with a big smile on his face these days. And he has all reasons for it He is the envy of the town and the vicinitv too. His brother, George, who is a sergeant at Camp Logan, Texas, sent him a beautiful I colt sired by General Funston’s saddle horse. The colt is a gift to George from Colonel Garrity, who presentedit to him in recognition of the fine work George is doing in the camp.George got a quick promotion. He enlisted in the National Guard at Chi- j cago, bift was honorably discharged by reason of the draft. He then became waggoner of the 2nd Reg., 111. Inf.Supply Co. He rapidly advanced and is now sergeant with three corporals under him. Having taken a course in veterinary surgery, he passed a brilliant examination and is now doing splendid veterinary work in the camp. The colt was sent to Frank by express. It was shipped March 27th and ariived safe and sound March 30.It is of a very soft chestnut color fine-built, high-spirited, a pretty creaturelook upon and promises to be a good saddle horse. It certainly seems to have inherited some of the dash of pride of its sire’s master.Already Frank is having pleasant dreams about his boy, little Howard, beholding him high on Funston’s colt I leading the American troops to sure victory, if the war is not over by that time. We gladly pardon this fatherly pride. The colt was introduced to the bar the other day and was greatly admired by the crowd. Luckily the saloon closing law hz^ taken effect, which will prevent the colt from contracting a bad habit and spoiling its career and Frank’s dreams.Casper Heppner, of Oldenburg, now has three sons in the army: George at Camp Logan; Charles in the Field Artillery at Camp Lewis, Washington, and Harry in the Aviation Co. in Oregon. Naturally the three service stars in the family give him just cause for pride. Here is good luck to all his boys.
