JOHN STONE DEAD.An Old Settler of Oregon TownshipPassed Away. jAinsworth, Mch. 4, 1808.—(Special.)Mr. John Stone, one of Oregon township's old settlers passed away this rooming at 2 o’clock, after a brief illness. Ills death was rather unexpected as he was able to be up a part of the time and was feeling fairly well. His son, E. A., was the only son at the bedside at the time of his death. Mr. Stone leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss E. A., of Trenton, Mo., conducipr on the C. R. I. P.; Arch, of Chicago, conductor on E I. I).; I. M.,of thiscounty, farmer; W. 8., of liurlington. mall clerk on fast mail from Chicago to liurlington; Sanford, engineer, of Eldon, Iowa, on the 0. It. 1. 1*.; and S. U., of Chicago, mail clerk on C. R. I. P. The funeral services will perhaps take place tomorrow afternoon from his late residence.In 1868 Mr. Stone came with his family to Washington County, Iowa, and settled on section 18, Oregon Township, where he purchased 210 acres of wild land, to which he added by subsequent purchase, until at oi e time he was owner of 400 acres of fine farm land, all of which he brought ui -der a high state of cultivation. Mr. Stone was a man of excellent business habits, and the line property which he enjoyed was the result of his own labors, assisted by bis good wife.
