i Partial BlackoutfjOf Metropolitan Areas Is SoughtI Atlanta, March 3—(IP)—Im-i mediate partial blackout of all metropolitan areas in the eight Southeastern states, regardless of distance from the coast, has been requested by the regional Office of Civilian Defense.Regional Director Charles Murchison asked Southeastern state defense councils in a telegram yesterday to “contact your local defense councils in all metropolitan areas at once and request them to .take steps to obtain immediate blackout until further notice of all lighting which is not capable of being put out at a moment’s notice.”“Cooperation in the extinguishment of all .advertising signs,” was ! also requested, including “store ! window display or other uncontrollable lighting which cannot be eliminated at once in event of an I alert.”J. E. Farrell, administrative, of-: ficer of the OCD, said the request was “urgent,” and added “we're not so much interested in the 300-mile area as we are in metropolitan areas. The telegram sent by Murghison, Farrell said, was the ?ame as received by the regional office from Dean Landis, national i OCD director.
