Army ExpansionProvides BigEnlistmentBecause of the United States army expansion program which has nearly doubled the standing forces of the nation. Fort McIntosh post in Laredo has been authorized to recruit a large number of men for service in a great variety of divisions, it was announced this morning by Captain J. 0. Colonna, acting commanding officer.There is a great need for young men to go into the branches of the army service for which they are best equipped, and under the present program the army is placing the men in the positions where they can be of more service and make the most use of their talents and training.“This expansion program is going to make a great difference to the unemployment situation of not only this community but the entire nation as well. Also in this work at the present time there is every chance for rapid advancement/' said Captain Colonna.Among some of the classifications where men are especially needed are auto mechanics, blacksmith, storekeepers, clerks, engineers, and practically all fields. There are positions open for practically everyone regardless of along what lines of work the preference lies, the Captain indicated.The requirements vary with the different divisions of the service. For enlistment a man must pass a physical examination, and must have a minimum education that enables him to read and write.
