Out of the past50 YEARS AGOH. R. Harness Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. Harness, 219 Steinwehr Ave., Gettysburg, was promoted recently to sergeant, it was announced today. He has been in the army since November, 1942...A 500-man prisoner of war camp, adjacent to Camp Sharpe, is expected to alleviate the manpower shortage on thefarms and in the canning industries of Adams County, although government spokesmen said today it is not expected to be able to use the inmates of the new camp until the tomato canning season which opens in August...Captain Wayne F. Wentz, son of Mr.and Mrs. Roy W. Wentz, E. High St., recently received a commendation from Lieut Gen. George S. Patton Jr.. commanding the Third United States Army. The local officer is serving with the 95th Infantry Division...First Lieutenant John 3. Zinn, son of Dr. and Mrs. John B. Zinn, West Broadwaj’, attached to the 399th Infantry of the Seventh Army, was one of a group of officers to receive the Bronze Star medal in ceremonies held since V-E Day.
