Ia ejery city and Tillage in the great Northwest, there are returned soldiers—veterans of the armyof the Cnloa—who cherish the most kindly recollections of our cUteens,mainly through thegenerous efforts of the excellent and self-sacrificing ladies and gentlemen composing the Subsistence Committee—on organization which has rendered In vain able service to the soldiers, both In health and In sickness, and whlch.has rendered the name of our city a “ household word *'• in thousands of scldlere* families. A member of the 32d Wisconsin Regiment, on reaching his home, writes to the Milwaukee Journal! as foi-I lows; ,• j . _ ' . . •«* We reached Pittsburgh at tour o’clock on Wednesday, and as we passed into the city every demonstration f of Joy was manifested which j could be thought of. Of course the feeling yas I reciprocated, and the boys made a noisy time of 1 it. Leaving the train we inarched up town,I where the ladies had a supper prepared for us I which was an honor at once to their patriotism I and good sense. They supplied us with a hearty 1 mealj we gave them three cheers none the I Itea hearty.. and like John Brown I went marching on. As the train moved 1 slowly out of town thousands of ladles came out 1 to welcome us and bid us God speed, and as we 1 pasted by those beautiful suburban residences I which ikirt the banks of the river, we are greet-| ed with magnificent boquets, apples, oranges, I little notes written by fair bands expressing 1 thanks for our sendees in the field, and by the I sight of ladies robed In the “old flag” to repre-1 sent the Goddess of Liberty} In fact everything I that a generous and patriotic people could do-1 vise was done to gladden our hearts.”
