m service Si* leanReturning home in March for his first visit in six and a half years,DuFresne was transferred to the Philadelphia Navy Yard when hs | furlough ended. He was at once assigned to the 0-9 re-commissioned submarine. A few weeks ago the craft established headquarters at New London, Conn.As machinist mate, first class. Mr. DuFresne was with the 0-9 when it was in Boston Monday. He wrote relatives he was there en route to Portsmouth, but from the information apparently he didn't expect to be in Portsmouth long.Had Expected PromotionHis plight has caused much concern throughout Southern Berkshire where he was well known, being a native of thu town and held in high esteem by hi* many acquaintances. He was a high ranking student at Searles High and in I view of his long Navy service andability he would be in line for a promotion soon. He is 29 years oldBesides his parents Mr. DuFresne has two brothers. William u employed in the office of Wheeler i Taylor, Inc., and Raymond lives in Lenox where he is employed.Francis Howard Golden, Holyoke fireman, second class, is another Western Massachusetts member ofthe 0-9 crew.
