Son of Mr. andMrs. J. J. DuFresne, Member of Crewj (From Saturday’* Eagle)GREAT BARRINGTON — JohnEdward DuFresne. 29. son of Mr. and Mrs. Jere J. DuFresne numbered among those dead aboard the Submarine 0-9 that went down offPortsmouth. N. H., yesterday. With32 crewmates DuFresne died according to U. S. Navy officials w-hen the reconditioned sub failed to return to the surface during Manouvers. Probabilities are that the boat and men will remain undisturbed on the floor of the Atlantic. ]Although hope was abandoned* jby Navy officials the young man’s parents were still hopeful today as friends offered condolences in their I loss. IMr. DuFresne graduated from: Searles High in 1929 and soon thereafter joined the Navy. He .spent, some time at Newport Training Station and went to the Great I^ke* Training School. Later rtej joined the crew of the S. S. Arizona. He was on the West Coast and in the Philippine* for many jmonths.
