In the meantime Capf. Brack Kearns of Scott township [Harrison co.?] with his brave company of “gwiniUa ratchets1 whoreside in the vicinity of I ho Island, and*(’apt. Jim Mansfield of Leavenworth withan equally as brave band of Crawford boys, and assisted by citizens numbering several hundred from both counties, “invested” the Island on the Indiana sirlewhil^ the channel of the river held them secure on the other side.
