lt;Jen. Bmucb. From the air of truthfulness, which pervaded tha article of “Hanover,” giving an account of the fight near Hanover C. II., Va., wo, in common with other papers, published it.’ We readily tiierefore publish the correction by “Hanover, in which he admits he did injustice to Gen. Branch.A correspondent of the Charlotte Bulletin rays that the 28th N. 0. regiment is in line near Hich-mond. He also states that the reported loss of Gen. Brandi's brigade in that encounter is about 800.— Why is it thill no official report of the losses have been made public, except the casualties of the 18th N. C. regiment? A correspondent of the Wilmington Journal blames Gen. J. H. Anderson, who he says was within 4 miles with a large force, but did not render Gen. Branch any aid. The annexed is the card of “ Hanover.”Richmond, June 0, 1802., To the Editor of the Richmond Examiner:In your paper of May 31st appeared an article on .the battle in Hanover, by ‘‘Hanover.’’ The author afterwards fount} that some facts had been unintentionally misstated, and that certain expressions had been used which might if unexplained, be construed to reflect upon the personal bravery of generalship of L. O’B. Branch ; therefore Hanover requested you, on June 1st, to insert an article explanatory of this first article, and was told by your cleric that the article would appear if possible. Will you, sir, please publish said article, if possible; and if not, please publish at least endugh to assure the public that “Hanover” is now s*lifted that Gen. It E. Lee has thanked Gen. Branch for his management on that occasion and for the conduct of his troops; and as the first article, if uncxp.ain-ed, might do injustice to a brave officer, it w nopeu (I)at you will at least allow an explanation.I n.n air HANOVER.
