9 ** -iPlaque Given Honoring DeadA bronze memorial plaque in-Sv scribed with the names of the 29 'former Whitman college students who died in military service during World war II will be mountedin the new-Student Center building as a result of a gift from the class of 1947, which was graduated Sunday.A check for $132, to cover approximately the cost of a 30 x 40-inch plaque, was handed to Dr. Winslow S. Anderson, college president, during the current closing week of college by Warren Raymond of Spokane, class president The gift was presented during a visit by Harland H. Edwards, supervising engineer of Bebb Jones, Seattle architects of the Student Center, Dr. Anderson expressed appreciation of the memorial on be-half of the college and conferred ■yith Edwards on a suitable place ■ ^tot the marker. *Jr Other Markers Dev* The memorial plaque, and alsoplaque listing the war dead of World war I which now hangs inMemorial hall, will be placed inthe entrance lobby of the Student Center. Another marker will record that the building istelf was erected in memory of all Whitman-ites who served in the two wars.Construction of the Student Center is progressing, with most of the interior finishing completed and laying of flooring underway. The concrete exterior is being sprayed and brick facing is expected to be laid immediately after the preparatory work is completed.Whitman’'s war dead in the recent war include 28 men and a Walla Walla woman. They also include four others who entered college from this city, two from College Place, two from Pendleton, a Milton man, one from Cove, and an Elgin man, among residents of nearby points.Those whose names will be recorded follow.
