Kanille AwardMade to WidowMrs. Marigene L. Kandie, widow of First Lieut. Victor Kan die. was presented the congressional medal of honor posthumously awarded her husband., in a ceremony jester-oay afternoon at the San Francisco Presidio.Presentation of the nation’s highest military award;' with the citation, “for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at risk of his life | above and beyond the call of duty,”| was made by Mai. Gen. H. C. Pratt,I commanding general of the western defense command. High ranking military and civil officials, including Governor Warren and San Francisco’s Mayor Lapham attended the ceremony.Lieutenant Handle performed his feat of heroismi last October 9 near LaForge, France, when he wiped out several German positions and took 57 of the enemy. He survived this action only to be killed by a German grenade last New Year’snear Golmar, France.Mrs. Kandlfe, a student of the University of California at Berkeley, and her three-year-old son, Terry, make their home with her parents at Redwood City,
