D-Day memoriShirley DeasonFor the AppQal-DcmocratAnd casual thoughts...WWII and D-Day were remembered by all this past week, but a recent visitor in the home of Edgar and Virginia Stanton of Live Oak brought back special memories. For the first time in 49 years, Edgar and WWII acquaintance John Hedu, of Watertown, Conn., enjoyed a day and a half of recalling their days as commanders of LCI’s at the Normandy Landing on D-Day, June 6, 1944. The two men had a lot of catching up to do as they filled each other in on the years following their Navy days. Besides commanding a LC1 in the European Theater, Stanton and Hedu also commanded LSM’s in the Pacific.
