Timely and extensive notice bad been given of the intended memorial services in honor of our “fallen braves,” but the attendance was beyond expectation,.trid beyond any former gathering of the kind. No doubt a part of the attraction was the expectation of hearing an address from your townsman D. Lloyd Jones, but somehow the people got it into tbeir beads that to attend and participate in these services was the tight thing to do.| Perhaps events now tran'puh.g at the capital of the nation may have ^miething to do with’the umuual tevertiug of the minds of our people to tin- graves of out departed heroes Full 500 persons were in attendance, about 80 of whom were soldiers of the late civil war. According to previous notice a procession was formed in front of the M. E. Church, at 2:30 o’clock P. M., under the command of Capt. C. D. Richmond, of Company £, 32 Wis., aud Moses Puariea of the 7th, in thefollowing order: First—Soldiers proceeded by martial music. Second-Pupils of tiie public school loaded with wreaths ^ and flowers. D. Lloyd Jones, Adjutant of the 10th Wisconsin, was then inti educed, who addressed the assembly in reference to the work before it. lie said, in effect, that all over this brwid land the people, moved by a common impulse, were at this hour wending their way to the “cities of the dead’' with •rari.iuds of flowers wherewith to adorn the mounds covering the sleeping dual of departed heroes, aud with a pathos worthy of Ids theme, desciibed the hardship and suffering endured by our citizen soldiery in resisting the mighty efforts to destroy our Government. His olL.rt, iu short, was a good oue. The sentiments he expressed were patriotic and heartily applauded. lie was followed by Mr. Wat-etlioU'C i.i a well worded extemporaneous speech. Tiie soldier’s graves were I hen decoiated by their living comrades, assistin' the school children and citizens. After which O. II. Lamorcux, E=cj, ol Plover, delivered an i Idress to the audience, replete with p.ifiiotic sentiments and flights of rhetoric cluiueteristic of that, gentleman’s oratory. The speeches were all well received. Rev Evans of Stevens Point offered prayer, and the ceremonies concluded by a benediction pronounced by Rev. Barrows of Plover. The audience then dispersed, highly gratified with the day’s proceedings, their resolves to ever remember the “boys in blue,” aud be faithful to liberty and union, strengthened. The sentiment of ail was, “I am glad I came.” We desire to make a note of the fact that Plover is the only place . in the county which publicly observes this day.AubovMcCJuneand * themfromcon ci place succi cents the f“Itbe a!give iyou lnppnWill Cone ment of w than of tl arc c Tiledaud i who]agreithenAlwasclassmunirespimusispue30 thto r cultiSIlean
