Newporter Wins Nien ian FellowshipDean Brelis, 33, son of Mr. and Mrs. Christos Brelis of 15 Newton Ct., is among the 11 newsmen who have been awarded Nieman Fellowships for study at Harvard University in 1957-58. -The group will go to Harvard on leave of absence from their jobs, to phrsue studies of their own choice for their background for journalism. - The fellowships were established. 20 years ago under the will of Agnes Wahl Nieman, widow of Lucius W. Nieman, founder of die Milwaukee Journal, and are perhaps the highest-prized grants in the field of journalism.Brelis, a graduate of Rogers High School in 1941, cniered the U. S. Air Corps in 1942. He later transferred to the infantry and received a field commission as second lieutenant in Burma.He \Vas graduated from Harvard College in 1949, having served asundergraduate correspondeht forthe Boston Globe, and then spent five years 'with Time—Life, much of it abroad. For the past twb years, he has been with CBS as a news writer and producer of TV shows. As a Nieman Fellow, lie plans to study the Russian language and Russian-Chinese relations.
