Moravia advances to semifinalsEDDYVILLE - Laurie Dowd whiffed 14, allowed just two hits and no walks to help Moravia to a ft-0 win over Murray and a berth in the Gass 1A regional softball semifinals here Saturday night.#The Eddyville Rockettes were eliminated from the regionals in a 9-3 loss to Pleasantville. Eddyville took a 6-3 win over Lamoni and Moravia an 8-0win over Twin Cedars in the first round of regionals Friday.In Saturday’s semifinals, the Mohawkettes were helped by five Murray errors. Paula Helmick led the winner’s eight-hit night with a double and a single while Lori Hopkins had two singles and one RBI.Moravia will play in the regional semifinals tonight at eight against Pleasantville. The game is at Eddyville.The Rockettes were the victim of a six-run fifth inning by Pleasantville.The winners used a three-run double by Dana Meyers in that inning in addition to two Eddyville errors and two walks.Brenda Bruch knocked in all three of Eddyville’s runs with a three-run homer. Losing pitcher Becky Johnston went three-for-three with three singles.
