Like.Rats in a Trap Ellangow-an Workmen Were Caught and Likely Buried in theRushSpecial to Ttip Inquirer.MAHANOY CITY, Pa., July 22.—(Somewhere along a gangway in Ellangow-an mine to-night there lie, probably buried in mud and water and dead, the bodies of Hve workmen, who were caught in a nufli of water from an abandoned working j above. The men were caught, like rats in a trap. 'The victims are Alexander Lynch, John Nacavage and Peter Kleckner, miners, and Michael Yonc-oski and Matthew C'hef-insky, laborers, all foreigners and married^ Kleckner and Nacavage were driving the ill-fated breast, into wlych the water poured in immense volumes, and they were carried 14. feet down the chute into the gangway, where the other three wereemployed. v : y -TWith absolutely no chance of escaping, all five men were doubtless drowned and buried eight feet under the awful deluge of water, mud and coal.The backing of the water into other portions of the mine first led to the discovery of the accident, and it was not long before an army of rescuers were at work. About 180 feet away from the scene of the disaster they recovered a mining cap, believed to belong to Lynch.
