There was a good representation of members present and the interest that is being taken in the organization and the work there is for it to do leads one to wonder how we got along without it as long as we did.There were twenty applications for membership read at the meeting and we understand there are a large num-' ber of others who have expressed a desire to join. Secretary G. R. Wharton as a supply of applications on hand nd any others wishing to join can have heir applications presented by seeinglm.The league is proving its worth in ore ways than one. The idea of giv-ng the boys a farewell send off Sunday fternoon was originated at the meet-ng Tuesday night will be under its irection.The farm labor problem is another hat is being worked out by the league nd through its plan of sending men ut from town to assist the farmers, t is hoped that the shortage of farm elp will be somewhat overcome, ’uesday afternoon two auto loads con-isting of O. A. Royer, W. B. Reeve,. A. Pierce, E. C. Lighter, R. B. arrison, Wm. Murphy, W. C. Wad-• 4ell and W. A. McLaughlin went down outhwest of Diatnond Center and put n three hours shocking oats for Victor ohnson. The next afternoon G. R. barton, W. H. Reever, 0. A. Satter,. G. Bates and Sam Groff put in three ours at the same place. Mr. Johnson ad a field of sixty-five acres to shock Without any available help in sight and he work of the town recruits waB a reat help to him.At the meeting Tuesday night the uestion of pay was discussed and it as the opinion of the farmer mem by s that forty cents per hour would be a aatifactory compensation. No definite rice had been named previous to this me by Jhe league, but as the report ad been circulated that a charge of ighty cents per hour would be made, t Was thought best to nail the reportin the head and fix a price.CALIAnother report that has been heard was that the league would refuse to send men over into Buf»na Vista county. This report, as well as the one in regard to price, smells of pro-Germanism and should also be nailed in the head. The league has been organized for the purpose of doing everything possible in helping to win the war, to promote patriotism and down pro-Germanism. Rader, who is in training at the Officers Training school at Camp Dodge, has been appointed the correspondent to the Des Moines dailies, the Register and the Capital and for the Camp Dodger, the official newspaper for the 88th Division for the activities at the Training school.Friends of Miss Helen Anderson, formerly of this city, will be interested to learn of her marriage to J. P. Reed of Des Moines.
