MUCK STILL HELD AT FORTISHe Preferred Not to Be Sent to GermanyWASHINGTON, July 16.—Dr. Karl Muck, former conductor of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Interned duringthe war as a dangerous enemy alien,still Is at Fort Oglethorpe, Ga., JohnIt. C reighton, of the Department ofJustice, told the House immigration committee today at a hearing on a bill to deport undesirable aliens.In view of recent reportR that Dr. Muck had left Charleston, S. (\, on a government transport with several hundred aliens, Representative Siegel, ofNew i'ork, asked why he had been deported.Di. Muck has not been deported,”Mr. ( reighton said. He did not choose to go. The fact that he Is retained at Fort Oglethorpe places him in the claBswith prominent German business men, held there because we believed theircases were serious.”The reason for Dr. Muck’s internment was not disclosed by the witness.
