News Flask*-*CAMP PENDLETOtf, July H. —Men of the San Mateo Battalion in scouts and snipers school here today were continuing the training that will make themthoroughly self'sufficient in the field.During their training, frequent bivouacs are held, and the men leant to prepare their own meals from basic rations.They practice firing at targets up to 1000 yards, as well as at moving and disappearing targets.They learn to camouflage fox holes and to build spider traps —those deep holes with camouflaged covering.They learn to blend theirclothing, face and hands into surrounding foliage through use of either prepared makeup or grass and mud if necessary.Crawling, creeping and silent walking are dealt with in de-*tail, and the men must become expert in going through barb wire.Night problems are thoroughly worked out. A light match 300 yards away requires that a scout advance and return with a full report of the cause of the incidentAll through the course, the students learn the relationship of the scout and sniper to the infantry—that of being an advance feeler for the main body cl troops,
