HOWARD L. DENEENCUMBERLAND — Howard “Red” Lewis Deneen, 83, ofCumberland, died Sunday, July 10, 2005, at Sacred Heart Hospital.Born Jan. 21, 1922, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Howard Levi and Alice (Mountain) Deneen.Red was one of four children. He had one brother, Bart Deneen; and two sisters, Betty Townsend and Thelma Zumpano.He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army. He served under General George Patton in the Battle of the Bulge. Red was the recipient of the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars.He had been a machinist for the B 0 Railroad. Previously, he had worked at the Celanese and A.B.L.
