At this moment the owner of the house arrived and, drawing a pistol, killed the oour.or. Many of the old City Zouaves belong ts this oompany.Noo*.—Cannonading can be distinctly heard hersi the direction df YorkSpecial Despatch# to the biqvtrer.I Washivotob, July 3,1868.Call for District Militia.The grand local excitement in Washington to-day, even over-riding the anxiety to hear from the battlefield in Pennsylvania, has been the order calling on!the militia, which has been whispered for several days.The order was issued to-day, calling for eight regiments ot militia, besides uniformed cavalry and intantry, to appear on Monday, to be mustered into the United States service for sixty days. The militia of the district tever exceeded four regiments undei the old enrollment, so that the authorities are obliged to make a careful search to■ ~ VPP •- the requisition. Officers of the Government, including clerks in ths departments, are cot liable. No excuse will be re* ceived. One lt;-«n hardly meet a man on the streetswho has not beba notified to appear. Major-Gencral Gxorgb C. Thomas is assigned to the command.The T ouxth of July in Washington.Arran gemen*-are announced for celebrating the national holidsjy to-morrow, but they do not attractmuch attention. 'The workmen at the Navy Yard have tor some time been organizing for mibtary service, but were never called into action. This afternoon, about four, an order was received for all to proceed immediately, without howitzers, for service in the outskirts of the city. The men have been recently drilled by Captain Foxhall I arkeh, and are considered highly efficient for service in the field.Reports coming in yesterday from the neighborhood of HocknUe speak of Rebel squads being in that vicinity. Two companies of Colonel Bakbr’Iefficient cavalry and a battalion, under Captains Bailer and Baily reconnoitred the wholo regionbeyond Rockville, but found no sign of the enemy.Clerks Drilling.Clerks in the several departments not being liableto service in the militia are being rapidly organized info independent battalions.
