But for saying much less than this many men are serving terms in prison, ranging up to twenty-five years and Eugene Debbs was one of them. And for saying much less thousands of good people were persecuted, hounded and ostracized just a few years ago.We have heard and read of the hitter denunciation of Eugene Debbs since his release by so many people, including*that wonderful “Open Shop Orator, Billy Sunday, that it causes one to shudder at what a low state of morals we have fallen to when we not only deny the truth ourselves hut punish those bolder and more honest souls who insist upon serving at Truth’s Altar when its lights are burning low. If Eugene Debbs is (as Gov. McCray stated in his recent speech to the American Legion) the Arch Traitor of our country where l will we find a name vile enough to denounce such men as Truman H. , Newberry, U. S. Senator from Michigan, or Wm. Hamlin Childs of New!York.:;W:--C . .jV
