he was sent to his present assignment.* * *Lt. Charles D. Hewes, 22, son of Mrs. Geo. M. Elder, 421 Copp street, Biloxi, pilot assigned to a B-25 “Billy Mitchell” unit stationed at an advanced base in New Guinea, has been promoted to captain. Enlisting in the army October1939,he is a graduate of the flying school cit Luke Field, Ariz., where he received his flight training. Captain Jiewes has participated in 39 combat missions and has been decorated with the air medal.
