Canada's War EffortX WEEKLY REVIEW 01 DEVELOPMENTS ON THE i HOME FRONT:Jnmmry 8—15, 19421. Prime Minister announces Government program regarding persons of Japanese racial origin in British Columbia, viz:—(a) Fishing vessels oporated by persons of Japanese racial origin on Pacific coast immobilized; (b) Persons of Japanese racial origin prohibited, for duration of war, from fishing or serving on fishing vessels or on other vessels operated by Japan-1 ese off British Columbia coast: (c)• Sale of gasoline and explosives to persons of Japanese racial origin, to be1 directly controlled under conditions prescribed by R.C.M.P.; (d) Japanese nationals forbidden to possess or use j shortwave radio receiving sets, radio j transmitters and cameras: (e) Intens-; ive surveillance of Japanese nationals i to be continued; (f) Civilian corps of Canadian Japanese to be organized to be used on projects of value to nation-\ ai cause; (g) Certain areas to be defined as protected”. From protected I areas on British Columbia coast, all enemy aliens, except those holding , Jt.C.M.P. permits, will be required to move; (if) Separate organization to be created to provide opportunities 1 for employment of adult male enemy aliens outside protected areas on work of national importance; (i Special office to be established in British Columbia to acquire Japauese fishing vesels and fishing equipment immobilized on Pacific coast; (j) Government to give special consideration to persons of Japanese race who served In C.E.F. in World War.(Persons of Japanese origin in British Columbia total 23,428).2.
