. D -Sgt. Tyree MemberOf Tank Destroyer Battalion in GermanyS-Sgt. Floyd G. Tyree is a member of the hard-hitting 773rd Tank Destroyer Battalion. He and his buddies have KO’d more Geijnan tanks than any other tank destroyer battalion in Lieut. Gen. Patton’s army. jAt the Falais-Argentari Gap his battalion had a field day help-ing rip the vaunted German Seventh Army to shreds. When the* din and smoke of battle cleared from the rubble of a once great army, 355 prisoners, 80 tanks, and 190 other vehicles lay victims of their guns. Shortly after, the battalion swung into action again with the spearhead of the 79th •Infantry Division in its spectacular dash across France, through M^ntes-Gassicourt, NeufchaHeau, Charmes and Luneville. In the muck and blackness of the Forest de Pai*roy, it was these same tank destroyerers that smashed through thickets of trees and clinging mud to lead the division in driving the Germans from the forest and win-, ning the fulsome praise of the commanding general. After a short stay with the, Seventh Army, the 773rd returned to Third Army to join the, famed 90th Infantry Division’s brilliant and now historic cross-. ing of the Moselle River that re-; suited in the fall of Metz for j the first time in twenty centuries. Even now, the battalion’s guns are are spitting death at the re-i treating German armor.S-Sgt. Floyd G. Tyree is £ : mess sergeant in' Headquarter: ) company. •
