FRIDAY, .(A.MAKl lb,City Defense Heads AbleMilitary MenDirection of civilian defense in Zanesville is in the hands of men with considerable military experience, whether civilian defense is retained under non-defense leadership or reverts to the war department.Zanesville's defense committee is composed of Lieut. Col. Earl W. Brannon, executive director appointed by Governor Bricker; Capt. Ralph Cosgrave, Commander Clinton Kramer and Police Lieut. Fred C. Quigley.In addition, many division chiefs are men also acustomed to the demands of military discipline. The following description stresses theimportance of the military .end-jencies of the organization:! “A setup with weapons and olh-!er equipment logically placed at istrategic points to- safeguard the 'civilian population from aerial attacks by the enemy, amplification land elaboration of existing fire |fighting units all over the country; Sthe construction of air raid shelters with intelligent plans for their use, and the obtaining of gas masks and arrangement of hospitalization for : casualties.”BUY DEFENSE STAMPSFIREMEN ANSWER ALARMSFiremen were summoned at 4 o’clock yesterday afternoon to extinguish a blaze in a coal house in the rear of 232 Gray street. No damage was reported. At 1:45 o'clock Thursday morning, they answered an alarm to Fountain | Square and Underwood street to extinguish fire in the wiring of an auto owned by R. McCormick, of Fountain Square. No damage resulted.
