At | ^ that time $10,000 was set aside and a committee, composed of the tJovernor, the state commander j oi the American Legion, and the President of the Texas Fine Arts Association, was appointed to su- j ^pervise the construction of theqiasncAainof\vmemorial.Contains 5,246 Names jIf The tablet itself is sixty feet lone and nine feet high, with aI ci aitl! ISfigure of a woman, representing L*Cin* •c:aS’ncademocracy, in the center which rises four feet above the rest ofjg |?the tablet. The memorial eon- j^terns the names of 5.246 Texas men and women who died in ser-j p v i ce d u ri ng th e W o rid W a r. Around the edges of the tablet are the insignia of the various! branches of service, and the names ^ ffhf the fourteen major battles of ! j ifthe war.
