Marine Corps Reserve unit has established a new claim to the Corps tradition of pood rifle marksmen, and the new claim comes from the 49th Special Infantry Company. The Reno Leathernecks, under direction of team coach and captain £g! Carl Parks, now have won all five matches concluded to date against other Marine Reserve units in the 12th Marine Corps Reserve and Recruitment District in small bore gallery matches.I Set. Parks indicated yesterday that two matches remain in thei series, with the U3MCR unit from Ogden. Utah, due next week and Santa Rosa, Cahf., the following week.Winners of each of five divisions with- the district will compete in ! semi-final matches for the district title, winner of the latter award to take part in final competition for national honors.With its section title now all but clinched, the 49th SI Companyfrom Reno now is working harder than ever, determined to takeboth district and national crowns, as well.To date, the 49th SIC has defeated Salem, Ore., 1,681 to 1,671; Sacramento, Calif., 1,733 to 1,379; Boise. Ida., 1,693 to 1.580; Salt Lake City, Utah, 1,729 to 1,589; and Eugene, Ore. 1.7G9 to 1,579.
