Jewish Underground Ends Truce As British Hunt for SuspectsJerusalem—(U.R)—British troops searched the town of Rehovot today for suspects in the flogging of four soldiers last Sunday while the Jew ish underground threatened new violence and the Arabs called a council to decide on “action, not words.’*Red Devils of the Sixth airborne division cordoned off Rehovot. Palestine’s biggest single concentration of Yemenite Jews, and in a house to house search rounded up'5,000 persons who were questioned in the Sunday flogging.Four men who had whips which might have been used in the flogging were held. The four Britons who were lashed in retaliation for the flogging of a legally convicted Jew accompanied the searchers today.The truce in the Jewish underground’s campaign of violence was ended “officially” by an Irgun Zvai Leumi statement calling for renewed action and denouncing the U. S. government for what it called only “lip service” to the Zionists.At the same time, Jamal Hussein!, acting chairman of the Arab high committee announced that an Arab Congress would convene in Jerusalem. It will take up secret decisions calling for “action” of an unspecified nature which were recahed at a recent Arab meeting in Cairo.Meeting In CairoHusseini said the proposed Congress would be preceded by a meeting of Arab foreign ministers in Cairo in connection with the resumption of the London conference on Palestine, expected late this month.Husseini described the Cairo decisions as of “a very serious nature, constituting a turning point in the Arab program.”The extremist Irgun organization circulated pamphlets warning that they were ready to renew attacks on Palestine communications and British military transportAt the same time the clandestine Irgun radio broadcast a rejection of an appeal by Joseph Clark Baldwin, head of the American Political Action Committee for Palestine, to suspend the campaign of violence. In bitter terms Irgun condemned the American government for what it called only empty promises of help.
