Medals of Honor Are Awarded to Dead IndianiansWASHINGTON, Feb. 26 — Two posthumous awards of the Congressional Medal of Honor have been made to Indiana servicemen.Pvt. William D. McGee, 22, of Indianapolis, a medical aid men, received the award for rescuing j a wounded comrade from a German minefield and being fatally injured in trying to help a second. He was with Co. A, 304th Inf., 7Gth Div., on the Moselle River, last March 18, when the action occurred.Lt. Harry Michael, of Milford, was awarded the medal for capturing, before he fell, more than 70 Germans, liberating two Americans who were captured and silencing a row of enemy pillboxes and two machine gun nests. The action occurred on his 23rd birthday, March 13, 1945, near Neiderzerf.
