Thousands of other: young Americans have f eed the dan-; vers of war without a moment's he-i-10tation. and thousands have died, asFrank died.But the story has another angle.Frank was a little different from most«■% *of the other boys who marched off towar from his, home town in Oregon Hls shin was darker than the average and the set of his eves was a triflepdifferent But he spoke «ood Enelish and he enjoyed the same s;orts ?h?j sam^ movies’ and the same jokes andstories that all the rest of them didFrank's parents it happened, had come from Japan, as h;d the parents of fifteen other fellows who went to war from the same county. This was very disturbing to some American Legion members. They did not want the names of these boys jxxsted along with those of the Smiths, the Johnsons and others on the county honor rcll Finally the Legion post which i kn-sored the honor roll, adopted a resolution. and the sixteen Japanese names were erased.Thus it came to pass that Frank Hachiya, who was rood ersouch to die for them on Leyte, had not been cood lt;4ioueh in the eyes of some of his fellow citizens to deserve public recognition back home.
