They were killed in World War I in 1918 and were remembered each Memorial Day as the annual parade began in those early years, at that point above the river.According to reports of residents. Daniels was reported tohave died while delivering supplies to the front and the other tv\. men apparently died in battles.Mrs. George Nye, a residentof the area, was instrumental in having the markers made andplaced, and trees were planted evidently just above the markers. The markers were made atthe Pomeroy Foundary.Harry (Hock) Canterbury, former barber who had his shop nea.' the memorials for 59 years, recalls when the trees werenlonfn/t rvvftrl ikn nloniioc rvl Qf*pHThere was a parade and people arrived, some in horse drawn carriages. Taps were played on the banks of the river in memory of the three men who had grown up along the Ohio near Kerr’s Run and had lived there until the war drums sounded, and then died on foreign soil.One of the trio, Daniels, was returned home for burial and itii believed the other two areburied in France.During recent river bankcleaning operations by the Community Action Program, thej______ suitdown when the plaques were discovered.The trees and markers are reminders of the Yanks who went “over there to the Big Front”,never to return except in spirit.The graves are somewhere else.
