1iI!two pianos and a victrola on boat. We had several dances on de k also and 1 | sure enjoyed them all. 1 enjoyed every day crossing- 1 didn’t miss a meal nor did I lose one. Some of the girls were oh, so sick and some of the doctors and officers were just as sick us the nurses.We have been treated splendidly by the French people. We are very com-fortably situated and have plenty to. eat iind drink. We have meat, potatoes, fruit, jam. butter and once and awhile white bread. The whole-wheat bread Is very good and I really like it, but it’s only natural to like white bread better.We haven't had our Christmas yet nor our New Years but every day we expect mail and our Christmas boxes. We will enjoy them all the more when they do come.Mow are you now’ Aunt Kate and every one. Please write me a longletter and tell me about everythingand everybody. What you all did Christmas and New’ Years and w’hat Santa brough all of you. Is Uncle Mike all O. K.,—Bea and the baby?Tell Hazel and family I said hello and1 ~■ .sent them my best regards. jWhere we are located is a very pretty place. Now’ there is snow everywhere. The cold isn’t any more intense than that of the U. S. as I can$see. Of course we are all dressed... ?warm with woolen hose and underclothes, etc., and are living in a large hotel. Of course w’e haven't steam heat and running cold and hot water In our rooms, but we do have stoves in almost every other room and all the water we want and it doesn’t take long to heat some. It is so much better than I really expected that I haven’t one w’ord of complaint to make.We haven't started to work yet but hope to be busy soon. There are three other units located near us and j one. of them in the same town with us. One unit is busy but we aren’t busy as yet. My pal has been detailed for duty In a city near here but will be recalled as soon as we start business. IIThere are so many beautiful trees and a great deal of holly and mistletoe. You could sure do some great decorations for Christmas over here. We attended one Christmas service of the French soldiers. It didn’t compare in any way whatsoever to any of our Christmas services. But of course four years of hard war makes a very big difference. But I have a feeling that before many months we will all be home again and peace will have been declared. I just know’ that Iwill be home for next Christmas.There is so much I can’t say and so little that I can that it makes It hard to write letters. Anyway I am well, still as fat as ever and very happy.I would love to hear from you all and I w’ill wudte as often as possible. !Tt Is possible that you won’t get all my letters, but here is hoping you get a few of them.Lovingly, your niece,BIRDA. j Birda R.
