Brownell Completes i 40th Year in Business !Last week J. A. Brownell celebrated • his fortieth anniversary as an Algotia j business man. Ho came here forty ; years ago from Three Rivers, Michigan, and In partnership with a Mr, Allred of Garner and a Mr. J. W. Hayward of Vinton opened a shoe store, known as Brownell and Allred. Neither of the partners ever lived In Algona. When Mr. Allred went out of the business some years later the firm wasI known as the Brownell shoe Co. Some twenty years ago Ralph Horlgan became a clerk in the store and In July, 1922 bought a half interest which he held until 1933 when he sold out to Mr. Brownell.Mr. Brownell has not confined himself to the store entirely, but at various times has been on'the road selling footwear. However, since Mr. Horlgan sold out Mr. Brownell has devoted his time to the store where he Is assisted by his son, Roy, who has been permanently located with the store the oast six years. Previously he had assisted-at various times. Mr. Brownell s one of perhap® less than half a doz-n who have been in business in Al-tona forty years.
