Strong federal garrisons have been es-1 tablished along the line and all the stations are occupied by guards.Villa Depletes Ammunition Supply.El Paso, Tex., Feb. 6.—Orders for 10,000 rifles and 1,100,000 cartridges were telegraphed to New York by Pan-cho Villa for his rebel army. The El Paso supply is exhausted.That the presidential prohibition did not prohibit while it was in force is Indicated by figures in possession of United States officials. According to these figures ammunition and arms valued at $700,000 have been shipped to El Paso since President Taft’s embargo of March 14, 1912, went into effect.Maximo Castillo's bandits who have been operating in the vicinity of the American Mormon colonies southwest of Juarez in all probability will soon surrender themselves to Constitution* alist authorities in Chihuahua.While Villa is rushing plans for the atta'ck upon Torreon no fighting has taken place and the actual attack is not expected until Villa replenishes his ammunition supply.In some quarters there is expectation that Villa ie making a feint against Torreon and really intends to attack Monterey first..The rebels recently attacked Monterey when it was defended half heart* edly by a small federal garrison. They had no trouble driving in the outposts but the Monterey brewery, a considerable distance out from the city, hap* pened to fall into the rebels' hands early in the attack, The fighting was stopped until the rebels could disposeof the beer. Mex„ Feb. 6.—The military headquarters here have received a report from General Eugenio Guli-lar, who announces that a live-hour battle has occurred at La Pauerte, west of Tampico. The rebels were severely defeated and suffered heavy losses which are estimated at 300.The American cruiser Chester has obtained special permission from the government to make a series of tests with torpedo tubes on the beach.
