------- UgcU 11.' Last Sunday I spent all afternoon doing my washing and you would have I laughed if you could have seen me. All I had was a small brush, a bar of P G. a board and a bucket of water and it took plenty of elbow grease before I had finished the job. I did manage to get my clothes good and clean, but what a job I have had trying to dry them. I have been running f 1 om the tent to the office between j showers taking them down and putting them back up every day since and today they are finally dry. I’m afraid that this washing business is going to get rather tiresome and believe me,I have cut down on the amount of clothes that I have been wearing. I won’t be as clean as before or as clean as I’d like to be, but everyone else here is in the same boat and there isn’t a thing that can be done about it.“We now have some showers rigged up and can at least wash in fresh I water, but the water is at a premium and the shower is a makeshift affair, made out of an old barrel with holes in the bottom and certainly nothing fancy. It is better than nothing however, and we can get by all right.“The main thing that I have noticed here is the change in food. Of course,we don’t have anything like we had before and the only fresh meat we have had since coming here is mutton, and you know how I like that. I just can’t eat it and have to get along with- I j out meat when they serve it. The I! evening meal was the final pay-off though and I couldn’t have eaten it I no matter how hungry I was. The I meat was lamb tongues, if you can imagine it. There is onq thing about it though, and that is you can’t run over to the PX or anywhere else and
