Preside•?X: •• VS!';:;^Highlight of a gathering of Newton Poet No. 111, Legionnaires, auxiliary members and 40 and 8ers on the evening of Dec. 20 was the burning of the mortgage, taken out at the time the building was purchased. Participating in the ceremony were heads of the various groups of the Legion, left to right, Commander Harold M. Finch of the Legion, Chef De Gare E. C. Pickens of the 40 and 8, Clarence Grieb-eling,, secretary-treasurer of the Legion Trust board, Miss Lulu Kennedy, president of the Auxiliary, and J. W. Halden, chairman of the Legion Trust committee and toastmaster of the mortgage burning probram. W. D. Smith, In front, who donated many hours of time in remodeling the building, was accorded the honor of touching the match to the mortgage.
