Corpus Christi Civilians Prepare For Night When Drill Will Darken HomesAnticipating the night when air-raids or blackout drill*will darken electric bulbs in their homes and along their streets, civilians in Corpus Christ! have developed a sudden, unprecedented interest in flashlights. To assist householders in making more efficient use of their flashlights, the consumer division of the Office of Price Administration has collected information covering flashlight rehabilitation, purchase, use and con-r servation.First of a number of rules formulated to guide the consumer advises the housewifeto scour the basement and attic for flashlights which can be rehabilitated. Most damaged flashlights can be repaired by the girlbehind the counter at an electrical supply store, a hardware store or a ten-cent store.Director of Civilian Supply Leon Henderson has urged all consumers to exercise restraint in purchasing flashlights and has pointed out that 70 per cent of the families of the country already possess one or more flashlights which need only batteries or minty repairs to restore them to use.Do not stock up on batteries.to go out to buy, he should remember several rules.There arc two main types of flashlights, the floodlight and the focusing light. The floodlight, which throws a diffused light over a large area, is recommended for use in the home. However, many flashlights are combination flood and focus and will constitute a better investment.Buy a flashlight with fresh batteries that are cheap and easily replaceable. Buy a standard type.Small flashlights which use one or two regular size batteries are preferable to large powerful ones, which use up critical materials in greater quantity, give unneeessari-ly-powerful light and cost more in upkeep and repair.A flashlight that will stand byitself on the table or floor isBatteries lose power as they stand. \ preferable to one that must beHeat reduces the life of the bat tery. Keep the flashlight where it will not be near heat or hot water pipes lake canned goods, the flashlight should he kept “in a cool, dry place.” Should your youngsters remove the flashlight and use it as a toy. you may find it missing or the* batteries may be used up when you need it most.
