After rowing for a day and night he was picked up by sailors of an American transport and , taken to the Municipal hospital in Brest. He v, as treated there for about six montli3 and was finally discharged,No one would adopt him so he wandered about the streets of Brest with « 1 some of his brother unfortunates.• Whenever an American transport ar* 1 j, 3 rived at the port, he and his compan-j ions would rush to the vharf where 5 they would surely get something to eat 0 from some of the sailors. This con-tinned for about two years. Then the . men on the transport that had given ! him food so many times decided .-to make an American of him so they 5 adopted Francois.
