Christmas day was brought to a sad ending in 8mm eta burg* by the drowning of Willie Duhigg, the nine year old eon of Mrs. Anna Duhigg. Along in the middle of the afternoon Willie Duhigg and Raymond Benda went io the lake to skate. They skated tip to Third Island add went onto tBe island to get some slippery elm ba. SVjraa getting to be dusk by this tittle ana Willie said::he was going ho nib and started out'.’ Ray continued ib get slippery elm for a few minutes longer and started out, but could not see Willie anywhere. He concluded that he nd stayed longer than tie thought and that Willie had gone oti hom^, so he came on home. By this * time Mrs. Duhigg became uneasy at her sons absence, and when it was £und that Ray was home a aearching party went up the lake and when a short distance from Third island they .found a largo air hole aud tracks of skates close up to it. They dragged around in the water some time and found ■Willie'S body at the bottom, close to the edge of the ice. He bad evidently skated right into the hole without noticing it at all. The water where he was found waa between five and six feet deep. It was certainly a s ad ending of a Christmas day for Mrs. Dukigg. Willie was a bright manly little boy, and was the ouly child and was almost idolized by his mother. His father died a number of years ago;This is the only case of drowning that has occurred in Medium Lake in the past thirteen years to our knowledge and we never hoai-d of one happening here before.The funeral was held from Asanmp-*»on ^hvr^b.Tuesday at 10:30 o’clock and waa vary largely attended. The services were conducted by Very Rev. J. J. Smith and the interment was made in St. John’s cemetery. The' pupils of St. Mary’s Academy, of which Willie was a member, attended in a body and his remains boruo to the grave by six of his school males.Willie was only nine years of age and his father died when ho was less than one year old. Ho was his mother’s pride and joy: deprived of bis father, she lavished upon him all the affections of her nature and was completely wrapped up in his life, doing from her in nil the activity of his bright boyish nature with his words of love at parting still fresh in her mind, ho waa brought back to her lifeless and cold. No wonder she was prostrated with grief for the brightness of her life had gone out. Thegrief stricken mother has the sympathy of all in her bereavement.
