O't ft irn ISIOX was smashed at for two days by the Sixth Panzer Army and so finally we were foreed to break off contact and pull out the chewed up remains of our Cub Scout pack. With the colonel in the lead we became lost in the hilly snow forest and the column was ambushed by a force ofenemy Tiger tanks. Word came down the line to break up and Indian-style it to Wirtzfeld some ten miles back.Small groups made it into Wirtzfeld throughout 19-21 December, assembled and hadfairly easy going back more miles to Elsenborn Ridge where we dug in to celebrate Christmas.WE SAT AROUND licking our scratches in warm foxholes while our partners at Bastogne and elsewhere had a go at it. About all we had to do was watch the Germans down inthe woods, keep our heads down and our feet dry, and grow fat on C rations.
